10 Common Makeup Mistakes
Makeup boosts our self-confidence by drawing attention to our finest facial features and make our skin look well-nurtured. However, if not applied appropriately, it can actually make your face look older and unattractive.
Choosing the wrong makeup tactics can make us lose touch with others, especially if they know how you look naturally. If you want to avoid these mistakes, we have compiled a list of the most common makeup mistakes.
1. Applying Too Much Concealer
As we aspire to make a perfect matte effect on our face, many of us end up applying too much concealers. If you select the wrong color or apply a thick layer, you’ll look more aged by underlining wrinkles on your face. To avoid this, choose the correct color tone that resembles your natural color and avoid thick foundations. The best foundations are the fluid ones as they contain particles that make your skin look healthy and stunning without over-weighing it.
2. Overusing Mascara on the Lower Lashes
Good mascara on eyelashes gives us the great looks and facial expressions. Not only does it define the eyes, but it also widens the eyes giving them a larger and youthful appearance. However, putting too much of it on your lashes will attract all the people’sattention to the wrinkles around your eyes. Thick mascara has a way of making even the smallest wrinkle to stand out on the face. Apply sparingly and avoid pressing the mascara too hard on the lashes.
3. Using the Wrong Lipstick
Lipstick always enhances our image. However, you need to know which lipstick is suitable for your lips. For example, if your lips are narrow, avoid using dark-toned lipsticks. The dark colors will make the lips look thinner and unattractive.
4. Putting Rouge on the Apples of your Cheeks
Turn people’s attention to your attractive cheeks by using light tones such as peach and pale pink. Apply blushes to the uppermost part of your cheeks and not the central part. Dab the rouge on the
upper cheekbones and avoid going too close to the nose area. Applying mellow and natural tones also makes your face look younger and glowing.
5. Too much Underlining of your Eyebrows
Enlarging and highlighting your eyebrows with intense dark tones can make your face look old and untidy. Use colors that are lighter than your natural skin color of your eyebrows.
6. Applying Dark Eye-shadows the Wrong Way
Be careful when enhancing the eye shadows. Applying the color over the whole lid area can make you look more aged and gloomy. The best thing to do is to only dab the outer corner parts of the eyes.
7. Overusing Eye Lid EyeLiner
Eyeliner is primarily used to define the eyes and give them the illusion of fuller lashes. The eyeliner creates depth and gives the eyes a larger look if you apply on both the upper and lower lash
lines. However, over lining the eyelashes will create the unattractive black ring around the eyes making your eyes look smaller and unappealing. To enhance your image, apply a light makeup pencil to your eye-shadows. Avoid using dark eyeliners on your lower lids for this will make your eyes look too narrow.
8. Ignoring the use of Corrector
As we grow old, dark circles under the eyes become more pronounced. Applying the concealer could only make them appear worse. Apply some small corrector to enhance the looks on your face. Focus on the dark areas only and spread it sparingly as possible.
9. Not Remembering to Shade your Lip Lines
A lip-liner pencil is an essential item for makeup. It enables you to make the lips of your mouth more defined and very appealing. Nonetheless, you should be careful not to overdraw your lips beyond the natural borderlines.
10. Powdering Your Face Too Thickly
The powder is the finishing item that corrects the skin defects if it’s used well and in small amounts. If it’s used too thickly, it worsens the whole makeup process. Applying thick powder on your face can give a flat, older and unnatural look to your skin tone. Avoid powdering the areas surrounding the eyes for this could pick out the wrinkles and make the skin look dry and unpleasant. It’s advisable to the powder lightly just where it’s needed, that is down the t-zones of the face and lightly on your cheeks.
Other makeup mistakes include: not cleaning your makeup brushes; sleeping in your makeup; and keeping your makeup items for too long.
