Say Goodbye to Text Neck and Other Phone-Related Aches

Today, mobile technology along with its exciting features are one of the reasons why people keep on having more time to spend texting, browsing and talking over phones. It is also one of the main reasons why most people these days experience mobile technology aches such as neck issues and more.

The more time you spend in an inappropriate position, the more you jeopardize your body’s health. Medical professionals say that leaning your head inch by inch would give double loads and strain to your neck. It means that if you have a 12 pound head it would exert pressure of about 60 pounds in a 60 degree angle.

The bad effect of this habit in your health all depends on how much time you spend on your device. An average use of 4.7 hours a day is only spent using smart phones alone. If you want to prevent health issues or get relief from an ongoing ache, here are some tips that you can use.

Text Neck Prevention and Treatment:

1. Keep your head on eye level. Instead of lowering your head, you can steady your head on eye level so you can prevent stressing your neck. If you are uncomfortable doing that, then keep your head straight and let your eyes do the job of looking downwards.
2. Change your postures. It is necessary to change your posture when strain starts to kick in. Try releasing pressure by stretching your shoulders backwards while standing.
3. Make your core strong. A strong or firm body muscles especially on the abdomen area helps in maintaining good body posture. You can try spending some time at the gym or do some abdominal exercise at home before holding your phone.
4. Do the stretching. If you are experiencing text neck, then it is time to do some stretching. You can try yoga and shoulder and head rolls.
5. Move from time to time. If you are too busy to do stretching, you can try moving around instead. Hold your phone from one hand to the other while walking and using your device. This also helps in keeping the strain away.
6. Drink lots of water. To keep your muscle flexible and working well, hydrating it is the key. To avoid strains also means cutting caffeine and alcohol consumption. You can also eat healthy greens that contain fluid like celery or water melon.
7. Spend time for massage. Try spending some time for massage where you’ll find more muscle relaxation. If you don’t have the budget, then try buying massage books and learn how to pamper yourself at home.
8. If your strain aches are getting worst, visit your doctor. A physical therapist may be recommended for you.

1. Let your other fingers move. Concentrating on your thumb to do the typing makes more strain especially to your neck. Try typing using your other fingers so your thumb can rest.
2. Let your eyes rest. Your eyes could get dry, strained and itchy when spending too much time staring on devices, computers or televisions. Spend time looking away or even closing your eyes for 5 minutes. This will help in giving your eyes a rest from time to time.
3. Limit yourself. The brightness coming your mobile phones, computers or televisions can leave a lasting effect on your brain where you would find it hard to rest during night. Turn off your devices 2 hours before going to sleep so your brain won’t imprint the brightness.
4. Be an example for your family. It is important as an adult to talk and be an example for your kids at home especially for teens these days who will spend more time on social media. Let them see that you are disciplined on using your devices. This will also prevent them from having technology aches in the future.
5. Disconnect for a while. Sometimes, it is healthier to disconnect from advanced technology and internet for a while. Not only does it help in relaxing your body and mind, but also you get to spend more time in an actual world.

You can spend time on advanced technologies, but always remember to limit yourself all the time. Spend more time appreciating the real things around you especially talking to your friends and family. Sometimes these normal things are taken for granted because of technology. Get connected to your surrounding and be healthy!
