Tips For Happy Marriage

Marriage is a big commitment. When you decide to take the leap, your fantasies overtake your mind and lull you into a sense of false complacency. You think it would be all sunshine and rainbows. However, as reality strikes, as you see the number of compromises you need to make, you will know that it requires active attention, care and dedication to have the happily-ever-after that you have in your head.

Rather than being overwhelmed by the stress, tensions, and confusions that ensue once you start your married life, learn to anticipate some of the issues, educate and prepare yourself on how to tackle at least some of them. Nobody can teach you how to carry yourself in your marriage; however, here are some tips for a happy marriage.

1) Make everyday special!

You don’t need any special day or reason to celebrate your marriage. Celebrating your marriage doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to make a big production of things. It comes from the smallest of gestures, affection, and love. Enjoy the little things and don’t forget to find time for your partner. Show that you appreciate them. Remember the birthdays and the anniversaries. Go for date nights. Never keep them craving for your attention and affection; sense their needs and make time for them in you busy schedule. Take trips down the memory lane; go through your old photo albums. Visit those places where you have special and happy memories together.

2) Keep the fire burning!

Getting married doesn’t mean that you need not try anymore. Present yourself well to your partner, not because you need to keep up an image, but to show that you care for your spouse. Your partner loves you for you, so, reciprocate in kind with attention and love. Have fun together. Develop your own little traditions and rituals. Having fun moments and simply spending time together keeps the spark of your relationship alive and thriving. Share those private jokes with each other that no one outside of your personal bubble knows. Enjoy the thrill of such little intimate moments which will keep the fire of love burning within you!

3) Establish a Foundation of Confidence

Fidelity in any relationship should come naturally. In marriage, staying faithful and loyal takes the top spot. Do not entertain other people of the opposite gender inside or outside the knowledge of your spouse, especially not to incite jealousy. Neither should you entertain it if your partner exhibits unwarranted jealousy. Talk to your partner and try to gain their confidence and trust. Give no space or room for doubts in your marital relationship.

4) Don’t make it a big deal!

When problems and fights start bubbling, try to discuss matters first. Take a calm and composed approach to resolving the issues rather than pointing fingers and shouting. You should master the art of effective communication. If you find yourself feeling troubled by some issues from your spouse’s end, gently present the issue. Don’t make it a big deal! Presenting the issue in a mild tone and even suggesting some solutions that the both of you could work on together would make your partner feel safe, comfortable, and above all, more receptive.

5) Experience is the best teacher!

Learn from the mistakes of the past, like an ugly fight or an unnecessary argument, even the way you resolved a previous issue. Relationship and marriage entail dedication and commitment. Don’t give up when things feel like they are taking a bad trip down the hill. Do not explode at the slightest provocation. Don’t bring up the past, be it any matter regarding either person’s previous partner or about your previous fights. Do not twist words, point fingers or hold anything against your partner. Holding grudges will drive a wedge in your relationship unbeknownst to yourself, and it would be too late to fix the cracks before you notice anything breaking.

6) Healthy Relationship

You never fail to express your gratitude or regret to others. Being married doesn’t exempt you from this duty. Never remiss to say sorry or thank you. Show respect. Say please when you need their assistance. Being polite doesn’t just reap the rewards in your public life. It warms the heart of your partner when they feel respect and politeness from you, and they will naturally reciprocate with the same.

Marriage is about acceptance and adjustments. Learning to practice healthy communication is one of the most important tips for a happy marriage. Accept your partner as they are and never persuade them to change their nature. It doesn’t mean that you should entertain unhealthy or abusive habits. Waive their petty flaws and learn to love them. If your partner snores, it is okay! You have several pairs of headsets lying around and good music on your iPod. If she takes too long to get ready, there is always some sort of sports going on in TV.

7) A smile can take you miles!

Start your day with a smile on your face and a tender kiss on his/her forehead. Greet your partner with a smile when they get back from work. Be pleasant. The warmth you exude through a simple smile will make your relationship glow brightly.

8) Respect Personal Space

Being married doesn’t mean that your partner doesn’t have a life outside of your bubble. Let them have their personal space. Give them leg room to have a healthy time with their friends and family. Sneaking a look at their messages and mails should not even be considered! Earn their respect and loyalty through your actions and learn to respect. Do not invade their privacy. Trust is the key to a happy marriage.

Being a sexist is another no-no. You should not try to dominate your partner in your married life. Learn to support each other. You don’t need any tips for a happy marriage. You should react to any situation calmly. Imagine yourself in their shoes and teach your partner to do the same. Remember that humans are not infallible or flawless. Accept the flaws. Never let the sun go down on any churning issue. When there is something brewing in your mind, talk! Try to resolve any fights or misunderstandings before you slip into a slumber. Don’t forget to thank them for being understanding. You can get things done by turning on your charm and not through demands. Charm them with your affection and tenderness. Say, I love you. Or show it through your actions everyday. No day is a holiday for love. No day is a holiday in marriage, especially for a happy marriage.
